the dad called 911. the corporal was minutes from the home and jumped into action and performed cpr on the girl. windsor said it was tough to put his emotions aside. >> chest compressions, and uh, as soon as i started that, a police officer came. >> try to react appropriately and do what you'd hope anyone would do for their own child in the situation. >> the corporal says everyone should take time to learn cpr. brook is recovering at a hospital in baltimore and could be released as early as today. it is 5:01. baltimore county police say they suspect foul play in the death of a man in cockeysville. they're waiting for a report of a body in stone court. still no word on the victim's

identity. a woman in west baltimore, her body was found in the 1900 block of mclean avenue yesterday morning. the victim was stabbed to death. the suspected gang leader convicted of ordering a teenager's murder will spend time behind bars. raulings isn't eligible for parole. parish's mt ed the death penalty, but was satisfied with the punishment. >> justice for him. he can't speak for himself. he's gone. i have to make sure that they were held accountable. >> this is the first time baltimore county has convicted someone for a hate crime. it is 5:03. from stink bugs to bedbugs, it's

time to get the big swatter out. sherrie johnson is live at the memorial building downtown as we figure out a way not to get bugs. >> reporter: baltimore city health officials will hold a meeting in downtown baltimore. the focus is try to figure out how to battle against those pesky bedbugs. health officials will be on hand today to answer questions from the public, answer any concerns they may have against the bedbugs, the blood sucking critters known as bedbugs turned up in the library. a worker checking in returned books, found bedbugs in a pair of children's books. the county hired exterminators and in howard county, a couple filed a $500,000 lawsuit over a bedbug infestation in an ellicot city apartment.

the couple was forced to move out of their apartment and throw away most of their possessions. they said their apartment was never properly treated for bedbugs. as you can see, they are popping up all over the place. baltimore city health officials want to figure out a way to fight against them. that meeting kicks off today at noon at the war memorial building. four minutes after 5:00. landlords have two weeks to make sure every rental unit has a carbon monoxide detector installed. requires the devices in every unit of every property new or old. failure can result in fines up to $500 per unit. >> we'll follow up this fall and we'll spot check those apartment complexes with our inspectors. we'll have them go in and randomly select certain

managers now earning 81 cents for every dollar earned by their male manager counterparts, compared to 79 cents before 2000. >> there's a bright spot and more women are gaining education, we're closing the education gap, but we're not closing the pay gap. >> reporter: while having children contributes somewhat to this discrepancy, childless women make less than men. researchers can't figure out why. >> prejudices that exist are based on ideas we had from another time, another kind of economy, another type of family life that don't exist today. >> the gao report finds women have made slow progress moving into management. as of 2007, women accounted for about 40% of the managers in the u.s. workforce. in 2000, females held 39% of management positions. >> until women achieve parody and pay in business leadership roles, they'll be marginalized

in every other arena. >> reporter: despite discouraging statistics, women will soon outweigh men in the workforce because men lost 74% of the jobs during the recession. news time is 5:17. people in harford county will soon have a new place to shop. a new kohl's opens up in forest hill. the story will officially open its doors at 7:00 a.m. it's the 21st kohl's store to open in the state of maryland. toys r us is gearing up for the holiday shopping season. the company is going to look to hire about 45,000 temporary workers this season. about 10,000 more than they did last year. much of that seasonal help will be for 600 toys r us stores. budweiser is trying to drum up more business today.

it will offer free samples at participating locations. it's all part of national happy hour. budweiser sales are down, other consumers have traded down and many switched to light beers. good morning, 5:18. we have ourselves what appears to be a clear sky, it looks cloudy on our satellite imagery. should make for a nice sunrise. 55 degrees here in baltimore. you'll notice what appears to be much milder, 63 in philly, 69 in york. much cooler, 49 towards allatoona. it appears as if the clouds trying to hang tight. frontal boundary to our south, returned surge of moisture, will try to fight its way back in today. we'll try to hold it off in baltimore until the mid- to late afternoon hours. it'll try to surge all day long as we have basically two things going on here. we've got one area of low pressure to the south.

we've also got a developing possible tropical system, could be named nicole at some point today. that's going to ride and get enhanced by the jetstream wrapping around the cold upper level low. we're going to continue to watch that. the general consensus of looking at a lot of different computer models, some trying to bring it inland, some trying to kick it out into the ocean. the general idea is pushing the general pattern up the chesapeake bay by thursday night into friday morning. this is what that means for us. it'll get wet. we'll have a lot of rain and a good chance we'll have flooding around here. orange and red shading talking about rainfalls. looking at some areas that could wind up with over five inches. the main area of low pressure may wrap this rain around through midday and the afternoon on thursday.
